Methodology
The Leader system is a technology embedded in the locomotives of VLI's premium fleet that enables assisted semi-autonomous train operation, reducing operational variables and equipment wear, increasing safety and energy efficiency. The system operates in real time, allowing for more efficient operation in terms of acceleration, braking, and power consumption, minimizing waste.

Results
In 2024, the Northern Corridor saw the greatest improvement in the use of the Leader system, increasing from 40% to 83%. With over 80% of use on a single trip, there was a fuel saving of 8.6%. Average consumption fell from 1.66 to 1.51 l/ktkb, generating a positive impact on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The indicator considers the cargo transported and the distance traveled. In 2025, VLI is intensifying the use of the technology, expanding its use in the Eastern and Southeastern Corridors.
