CARBON PROGRAM IN THE SUPPLY CHAIN

Logo da Parceira

A leader in telecommunications in Brazil, Vivo (Telefônica Brasil) has adopted mitigating the climate crisis – due to its urgency, intensity, and environmental impact – as one of its priority agendas. The company has already reduced emissions from its operations (scopes 1 and 2) by 901 Tbps and currently faces the challenge of reducing emissions from its value chain (scope 3), with the goal of achieving Net Zero by 2035.

Methodology

We selected 125 companies from the most carbon-intensive categories for Vivo, responsible for more than 80% of supplier emissions. Following this selection, we conducted a diagnostic assessment which identified that only 30% of suppliers measured, mitigated, or committed to reducing their emissions. To support and empower these suppliers, Vivo organized a series of webinars and offered free individualized consulting, in exchange for these suppliers committing to climate targets.

Results

With the training provided, participants in the Carbon Supply Chain Program were able to develop GHG inventories and set targets to reduce their emissions. In 2024, the Program trained 86 companies and more than 220 professionals. As a result, 87% of the carbon-intensive suppliers participating in the Program made voluntary climate commitments. The Program continues to engage suppliers, encouraging new participants and monitoring the progress of the commitments made. The next step will be to recognize the suppliers who stand out most in this climate journey.
