Tech4Amazonia
The Amazon has enormous bioeconomic potential, but faces challenges in infrastructure, logistics, and skills development. The Tech4Amazonia initiative aims to promote collaborative innovation, developing scalable technological solutions for sustainable development, promoting decarbonization, efficiency, and a circular economy in the region.
Scalable technological solutions for sustainable development.
Methodology
The Tech4Amazonia initiative follows five main stages. First, it maps stakeholders and their regional challenges, identifying opportunities for technological solutions that promote decarbonization, energy efficiency, and a circular economy. Next, it selects challenges, connecting Siemens' technological solutions to the needs of stakeholders in the Amazon. The third stage involves the collaborative development of Proofs of Concept (PoCs) between Siemens and local stakeholders. After validation, the solutions are implemented and scaled. Finally, the initiative foresees the development of an Open Innovation Platform for the Amazonian ecosystem.
Mapping stakeholders and challenges for impactful solutions.
Results
We mapped 70 challenges and selected 3 for Proof of Concepts (PoCs). Difficulties in mapping generated the need for an open innovation platform to facilitate the connection between stakeholders, challenges, and providers of technological solutions. Still in testing, it will be delivered to the sponsoring institution. The PoCs aim to: reduce mortality from 40% to 10% in seedling production through digitization and automation of environmental control; digitize a replicable production model in nanofactories for traceability and socio-productive inclusion; and automate the separation of Brazil nuts based on data and AI.
PoCs focused on reducing seedling mortality, digitizing nanofactories, and automating chestnut processing.
