EDUCATIONAL LEGACY OF THE AMAZON

Logo da Parceira

In response to the demand for sustainability and innovation in the field of renewable energy, Siemens Energy, in partnership with GIZ, will implement an educational program through the creation of a technical course in the energy sector at the Federal Institute of Pará (IFPA), for people in situations of economic vulnerability in the Amazon region, with the aim of training them to work in areas related to the energy transition.

Technical course in renewable energies for communities in the Amazon.

Methodology

The project began with teacher training, lesson planning, and the renovation of two laboratories – one at IFPA and the other at a state school. Four technical courses related to the energy sector were created, which will be held sequentially every six months at the Institute, aiming at research for the creation of hybrid solutions to be implemented in communities without access to the electricity grid. The initiative is funded by Siemens Energy and has institutional coordination from GIZ, in addition to support from the Itaú Foundation and SECTEC.

Results

With the goal of fostering a lasting educational legacy, the implementation of courses and research projects aims to train professionals for the renewable energy market. The expectation is that this will result in the training of qualified technicians and the creation of practical hybrid generation solutions for application in isolated communities. Approximately 40 IFPA students will receive scholarships each semester. In addition to the scholarship recipients, another 40 students from a state school and, indirectly, approximately 190 students from other IFPA courses per year will also benefit from the improved laboratories.

Over 270 students benefited from courses and laboratories.
