Self-production of electrical/renewing energy
In 2025, Motiva Trilhos (lines 4, 5, 8 and 9 of São Paulo) set a milestone in the metro-rail sector by adopting clean and renewable energy. This pioneering initiative reduces emissions and reinforces its sustainability strategy, with a goal of neutralizing scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2035 and an SBTi target of reducing 59% (scopes 1 and 2).
Pioneering in the metro-railway sector: adoption of renewable energy.
Methodology
The methodology was based on the partnership between Motiva and Neoenergia for the self-production of renewable energy at the Oitis Wind Farm (PI), aiming to supply the demand of the metro-rail lines. The process included long-term contracts, optimized consumption management, complementary acquisition in the free market, strategic energy planning, technical and operational adjustments, and integration with monitoring systems.
Strategic partnership between Motiva & Neoenergia: renewable energy for metro-rail transport.
Results
In 2024, the energy consumption of the four lines totaled 394,051.68 MWh, corresponding to 21,407.29 tCO2e. Self-generation will supply 385,440 MWh in 2025, neutralizing 16,227.06 tCO2e. For 2025, Motiva has guaranteed full compensation for emissions (scope 2) associated with the electricity consumption of the operated lines. The Initiative estimates savings of 15% in the overall energy cost of the units, reinforcing the company's leadership in sustainability and operational efficiency in the sector.
A 15% reduction in global energy costs reinforces operational efficiency.
