The Vitória Reclaimed Water project, by GS Inima, aims to supply Vale and ArcelorMittal with reclaimed water produced from treated wastewater. With a capacity of 390 l/s, it avoids water withdrawals from the Santa Maria River, combining advanced sanitation, water security, and innovation, marking the water transition in Brazil.

390 liters per second of reused water prevents water from being drawn from the Santa Maria River.

Methodology

Águas de Reúso de Vitória developed the solution in partnership with CESAN, ArcelorMittal, and Vale. The steps included the decommissioning of the Camburi Wastewater Treatment Plant, construction of a new wastewater treatment plant, and the implementation of outfalls and pipelines. Advanced technologies such as ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, and automation were adopted, with a focus on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance). The sub-concession model brought innovation in governance, efficiency, and low socio-environmental impact.

Advanced technologies: ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, and automation.

Results

The project will allow for savings of up to 390 L/s of raw water, preserving the equivalent of up to 4,900 Olympic-sized swimming pools per year. It generates environmental, social, and climate benefits, with a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and the potential for carbon credits. Financially viable, with an investment of R$ 250 million, it inspires the replication of the model. It consolidates itself as a robust and replicable climate adaptation solution for urban and industrial contexts.
