RE-SIGNIFICATION OF TERRITORIES THROUGH FUTURE USE PROJECTS
Some activities profoundly transform territories and communities. When an activity ceases to be profitable, the questions arise: what to do with these areas? What will become of this territory in the future? Arcadis has been working with various sectors, developing Future Use Studies, to contribute positively to this transition process.
Strategic management of territories in transition.
Methodology
The Future Use methodology is based on a broad understanding of the territory. It delves into the socioeconomic issues of the communities impacted by the activity. It explores territorial conditions and the potential and pressures on existing Natural Capital. Added to this are aspects of valuing Historical Capital, Urban Resilience, and the ESG commitments made by the company. Through a critical and cross-cutting analysis of these elements, it defines strategic Future Use options that enable the transformation and redefinition of these territories.
Future Use: a strategy based on in-depth knowledge of the territory.
Results
Future Use Studies aim to establish a New Legacy for entrepreneurs in the territory where they operated. Enabling new uses can occur through public-private partnerships, promoting Economic Circularity. This process, anchored in social responsibility, improves the quality of life of the previously impacted community. Furthermore, it favors urban renewal and reinterpretation, the strengthening of Historical Capital, and gains in biodiversity, guaranteeing a lasting and positive impact on the urban and natural environment.
Urban reinterpretation integrated with historical appreciation.
