CBA is recognized for its low-carbon aluminum production. In addition to decarbonization goals, the Company also has commitments to climate adaptation in its ESG 2030 Strategy, both for its operations and to support public management in actions to strengthen climate resilience in municipalities within its area of influence.

Industrial sustainability aligned with positive social and environmental impact.

Methodology

For its operations, CBA employed climate projection models for risk mapping and created a Climate Vulnerability Index to classify its units, enabling it to identify areas of vulnerability and support the prioritization of investments and activities focused on adaptation. To support the Public Sector, in partnership with the Votorantim and Itaúsa Institutes, it developed the “Climate Action Initiative," a solutions platform with tools and training to strengthen municipal public management in addressing the effects of climate change.

Classifying the units allows for prioritization of investments and adaptation actions.

Results

The updated climate projections and the creation of the Climate Vulnerability Index strengthened risk management and expanded CBA's response capacity to extreme events (e.g., creating alternative routes for transporting supplies). In the Public Management Support area, initiated in Juquitiba and Muriaé, it generated customized solutions and multi-sectoral engagement, strengthening the resilience of the territories. 170 people were mobilized, including 52 working group leaders, 34 public institutions, and 19 private and civil society organizations, in over 110 hours of mentoring.
