Thousands of isolated communities in the Amazon depend on diesel generators with consumption up to R$ 7.00/kWh. The Solar Project, led by the Sustainable Amazon Foundation (FAS) in partnership with Helexia, Schneider Electric, and Enerwatt Engenharia, will replace these generators with community and residential photovoltaic systems. The pilot phase covers the communities of São Francisco do Caribi (RDS Uatumã, Itapiranga/AM) and São Francisco do Caramuri (rural area of Manaus/AM), installing 800 panels (420 kWp) as part of the “Energies of the Amazon” program, which aims to cut 70% of diesel consumption in the region by 2030.

Photovoltaic systems replace isolated diesel generators.

Methodology

The solar electrification project in the Amazon features advanced infrastructure based on SIGFI systems, offering 36 hours of autonomy per household (180 kWh/month), integrating solar panels and lithium batteries. Management and monitoring are carried out through the Sustainability Control Tower (SAP), which displays SDG indicators in real time, while baseline socio-environmental diagnoses and ex-post assessments measure the project's impacts. Community engagement includes awareness workshops on clean energy and safe electricity use, 320 hours of technical training in photovoltaic operation, maintenance and monitoring, and health training, including chronic conditions card and telemedicine, as well as 300 hours of complementary education in entrepreneurship and innovation.

Socio-environmental diagnoses and ex-post evaluations measure impacts.
