Global demand for renewable energy sources, driven by decarbonization efforts, is fueling the search for renewable fuels. In this context, the vast biodiversity of the Amazon region presents unique potential for the production of green diesel, a drop-in biofuel capable of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Green diesel: competitiveness with low emissions and high efficiency.

Methodology

The initiative seeks to identify oilseed species from the Amazonian biodiversity with potential application in the production of green diesel. The oils obtained from the extraction will be subjected to conversion processes to green diesel in microfluidic systems and subsequently evaluated under specific conditions for commercial application. Their technical-financial viability and sustainability will be assessed using simulation and modeling techniques. Finally, the initiative aims to use these processes as a platform for sustainable regional socioeconomic development.

Amazonian biodiversity as a strategic source for renewable fuels.

Results

The expected outcome includes a descriptive characterization of oilseeds, the definition of the best technological arrangements for the production of green diesel, the identification of logistical and supply issues necessary to enable industrial processes, and the definition of regulatory frameworks for the commercialization of biofuel. Process parameters and technical indices for the detailed development of economic-financial modeling and the basic design of a demonstration unit will all be gathered throughout the initiative and aim at sustainable regional development.

Technical parameters and integrated modeling for advanced biofuels.
