Logistics Fleet Decarbonization: Fuel Replacement

Logo da Parceira

In the field of sustainable mobility, Ypê has intensified the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in its fleet, totaling nine vehicles in operation. Simultaneously, a project is underway to replace diesel-powered trucks with CNG models, with the expectation of reducing fleet carbon emissions by up to 301 Tbps. To enable this transition, construction is being finalized on two CNG refueling stations at the Amparo (SP) manufacturing complex, with operations scheduled to begin in August 2025.

Greener roads: CNG trucks to reduce emissions in 30%.

Methodology

The project aims to promote transportation solutions with low-emission technologies, expand low-carbon mobility infrastructure, optimize logistics networks, and integrate scalable, cost-effective solutions to decarbonize urban freight transport. The project introduces a low-carbon logistics solution by replacing diesel with CNG (Compressed Natural Gas), supported by the construction of refueling stations and the integration of natural gas-powered vehicles. The project was developed in partnership with Comgás (a piped gas distributor in São Paulo) and TIXLOG. Fully operational CNG infrastructure, acquired and leased vehicles, and logistics operations with a CNG-powered fleet began in August 2025 after successful commissioning and testing.

From route to result: logistics that reduces emissions and drives the future.

Results

On the Amparo–Salto route, the initiative generated a 30% reduction in fuel costs, contributing to a positive economic impact from decreased operational expenses. Furthermore, a 25% reduction in CO₂ emissions was achieved as a result of replacing diesel with CNG in operations. These results align with the comparative Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) study of fuels conducted by ACV Brasil and audited by KPMG, which also identified additional benefits in 12 environmental impact categories.

A worthwhile transition: proven benefits in 12 environmental categories according to an LCA audited by KPMG.
