Logo da Parceira

It offers an innovative solution for industries that have agriculture in their production chain, promoting the sustainable production of agricultural commodities such as soy, corn, and cotton. Using primary data to calculate the carbon footprint at scale, we develop effective intervention plans to reduce emissions in agricultural operations.

Technology, sustainability, and innovation go hand in hand. Bayer is making progress in traceability and carbon management in production.

Methodology

With traceability via QR code and blockchain, audited by Bureau Veritas, we offer transparency regarding the origin of grains, enabling the development of management plans to reduce carbon footprint. Through Footprint PRO Carbon, a tool from Bayer and Embrapa, farmers can measure GHG emissions in soybean, corn, and cotton production using primary data. The Guided Recommendation Module generates management plans based on regional scenarios, aiming to increase productivity, reduce emissions, and optimize inputs, promoting profitability and sustainability.

The first Brazilian soy with a measured and audited carbon footprint.

Results

The program delivered the first shipment of Brazilian soy with a measured and deforestation-free footprint, encompassing 10 farmers in the Cerrado and Amazon biomes. It achieved a 64% reduction in footprint, with 4 million sacks produced on 64,000 hectares, preserving 90,000 hectares of forest. 240,000 tons of soy were registered, audited by Bureau Veritas, and delivered to ADM with origin qualification, containing traceable production information and emissions calculations, and in accordance with socio-environmental analyses.
