Implemented by Probiomas, with financial support from the CAIXA Socio-environmental Fund, the project aims to sustainably strengthen the jabuticaba production chain in Sabará/MG. The initiatives include the restoration of native vegetation areas and the technical training of producers involved in the cultivation and processing of the fruit.

Purposeful cultivation, seedling production, and regenerative practices drive environmental restoration and the future of the jaboticaba tree.

Methodology

Faced with challenges such as inadequate orchard management, low technical skills, and lack of quality control, the project prioritized training farmers in the cultivation and processing of jaboticaba, promoting rural entrepreneurship and adding value to its derivatives. Actions included agroecological practices, environmental restoration, and the socio-productive inclusion of traditional communities and family farmers. To support this, a shared agro-industry, a quality control laboratory, and a technological consulting unit were implemented.

Reforestation in practice: Over 189,000 seedlings planted and 32 springs restored boost regional sustainability.

Results

The project has already directly benefited 386 producers of water, fruits, and related products, and indirectly impacted 4,710 people through training, courses, and technological consulting. In the Agroforestry System, 189,714 seedlings were planted, including approximately 50,000 jaboticaba trees, and 32 springs were restored. With the support of a quality control laboratory and a refrigerated agro-industry, structured according to sanitary requirements, many beneficiaries improved their products, expanded production, and increased their income.

Flavors of tradition with added value: Jabuticaba derivatives transformed into a source of income and local identity.
