Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Scope 3
ALLOS identified that 69% of its scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions come from solid waste. To mitigate this impact, it structured a management plan with a target of 90% of waste recovery by 2030 and offsetting residual emissions through carbon credits.
69% of ALLOS' scope 3 emissions come from solid waste.
Methodology
ALLOS' action plan sets annual targets until 2030, focusing on 50% of recycling, 40% of composting, and only 10% of waste destined for landfills or co-processing. In 2024, the company trained 17,000 retailers on the correct segregation of waste at the source, implemented a digital monitoring system, and modernized the waste management centers in its establishments. The initiative promoted multi-sectoral engagement and the use of technology for efficient environmental management.
The ALLOS plan foresees 50% of recycling, 40% of composting, and 10% of waste by 2030.
Results
Between 2023 and 2024, the waste recovery rate increased from 47.6% to 68%, resulting in a 21.5% reduction in GHG emissions from the “waste generated in operations” category (from 68,578.64 to 53,838.43 tCO2e). Shopping Plaza Sul, in São Paulo, stood out, jumping from 31% to 95% in its waste recovery rate. In 2025, ALLOS began acquiring carbon credits to offset residual emissions in its four shopping malls in the Amazon Basin, with expansion planned for the entire network by 2040.
Reduction of 21.5% in GHG emissions from the category 'waste generated in operations'.
