Zurich expands the impact of Origens Brasil in the Amazon.
Amazonian communities face logistical barriers and prices below fair value when marketing forest products. The partnership has begun to structure ethical commercial relationships with traceability via Origens Brasil®, funded by the Z Zurich Foundation and strategically monitored by Zurich Insurance in Brazil.
Fair trade and traceability for forest products.
Methodology
Imaflora structures the network with governance formed by councils and committees and conducts consultations with community organizations. The network expands territories, strengthens production chains, and implements controls and records for traceability through its own platform. In the field, it supports community organizations, organizes commercial articulation, connects producers to companies, and applies a price equalization mechanism.
A network with governance, traceability, and connections to companies.
Results
The initiative generated R$35 million in five years and increased the commercialization of forest products by 191%, benefiting 5,000 producers in 414 communities.
