The plastics cycle in the circular economy
Unilever Brazil has surpassed its global target of 25% of recycled plastic in its packaging, reaching 37% by 2024, and has become the first operation in the Americas to collect and process 115% of plastic in the market. This result reflects innovation in packaging and progress towards the circularity of plastics.
Unilever Brazil: 37% of recycled plastic in packaging by 2024.
Methodology
The project involved incorporating post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic resin into packaging for major brands such as OMO, Rexona, and Hellmann's, redesigning packaging, innovating product formulas, and partnering with cooperatives, recyclers, collection points, and initiatives such as ABIHPEC's Hands for the Future program. The entire process is audited by the certification body AcePlans, ensuring environmental, social, and labor compliance.

Results
Since 2018, the Tresemmé brand has been using PCR in its packaging, later expanding to 100% of inclusion in its HC products. Rexona launched the first deodorant cap with flexible PCR plastic and, in 2024, an actuator with 80%. Hellmann's adopted 40% of recycled PET in its mayonnaise jars and 100% of PCR in its ketchup. With this, the company's portfolio reached 37% of PCR in its packaging, avoiding 100,000 tons of CO2. Furthermore, in 2024, Brazil collected and processed the equivalent of 115% of the total volume of plastic placed on the market.
