Last Wednesday (10/07), CEBDS Climate Director, Viviane Romeiro, participated in a meeting with Senator Tereza Cristina (PP/MS), who has acted as the main interlocutor for the agricultural sector to facilitate a text of consensus. The meeting was organized by the Brazilian Climate, Forest and Agriculture Coalition, to which CEBDS contributes as co-leader of the Carbon Market FT.
Although the project report is already circulating restrictedly among some offices, an agreement was signed so that it will not yet be shared with external interlocutors. The senator highlighted a greater need for dialogue once the text becomes public.
Currently, impasses over issues relating to the voluntary market, REDD+ and jurisdictional regimes still cause divergences between actors. In addition to the technical details, however, the regulatory impasse surrounding the matter may currently represent the biggest obstacle to its approval.
As discovered behind the scenes, the new forecast is that the vote on the matter in the Senate will take place in mid-August. So far, the forecast is that periods of concentrated effort in the Federal Senate will occur in two moments, in the weeks of August 6th and 13th.
Also present were the Coalition's co-facilitator, Fernando Sampaio (ABIEC), the Coalition's Advocacy coordinator, Iuri Cardoso, and the co-leader of FT Mercados de Carbono, Gabriela Savian (IPAM).
